Given new processes, the complexity of my work is limited by my ability to handle complexity. (The reason I transitioned out of sculpture.) The pots are either one dominant shape – maybe with a base/foot or handles or lugs. Or they are two shapes. That’s it. Three is one too many.
In the last couple of years, I find myself working with the same basic shape idea that was central to my sculpture of the Sixties – a kind of rib cage/breast plate (armor)/blunt sailing ship prow. I feel that in some vases done in the last year I have really found a way to use it that makes sense. (Don’t ask me what it means!)
